DWU is an old-fashioned "Alternative" night playing pretty much everything you are likely to hear in any rock / goth / metal type club. The resident DJs are SDG and Larva. Heres a rough idea of what to expect, but since we play lots of requests the music on any given night is influenced by the people who turn up...........

While you`re waiting for the next DWU why not check out SDGs other night:

HISTORY:

DWU v 2.0 @ The Rifle Club 2K2

Some things change, and some things stay the same. Following its renovation / rebuilding, the Res will also be changing hands. We may return there some day, but for the summer we`ll be in our new home @ the Rifle Club.....

Deathwarmedup @ The Resolution
march 2000 - December 2001

Back in `99 I was asked to guest DJ for the Whitby Dracula Society after they heard some of my sets at Corrosion (Scarboro). I played a few gigs for them, including their Halloween Vamps & Tramps mini-fest. I successfully broke lots of new music into the insulated tradgoth Whitby scene, notably stuff like Ultraviolence & APB, but was unhappy with the division in the local crowd between the Vamps and the metallers that turned up because there was nothing else on.

Whilst the WDS were happy to let these folks pay their entry and spend at the bar, they were reluctant to allow the audience to influence the musical direction of the night ("This is a goth night - we want goth music for our goth friends"), even though there were more metallers turning up than goths. My final gig for the WDS was their xmas `99 bash when I played requests like Slayer`s "Angel Of Death", and Metallica to a packed dancefloor all night and had a fantastic gig. But the third of the audience who didn`t like this not-goth stuff didnt appreciate it. There was no mention of another gig for the WDS.

Which left a venue not being used to its full capability and an audience that werent being catered for: hence deathwarmedup was started as a one-off in March 2k, and had a good enough response for it to continue running up til the present. DWU was never intended as a rival for the WDS: the whole attitude of the night was different : music, Dj style, use of the venue, requests policy, artwork, not taking itself so seriously (having a tongue-in-cheek name for example), the audience we were playing to, etc, etc, etc......... I had originally assumed that the two nights would run alongside each other with an overlapping audience:but things are never simple when peoples egos get involved.

Thanks to: The DWU punters for supporting the night, The Resolution for coping with the noise and vibrating ceilings, The Zombietech members for spreading the word, Lucy & Larva for lugging stuff about, Fraggle for keeping the dancefloor alive, and everyone who`s handed out flyers or stuck posters up.......
